V roku 0079 univerzálneho storočia, vesmírna kolónia známa ako Side 3 vyhlási nezávislosť ako Principality of Zeon a vyhlási vojnu Zemskej federácii. O rok neskôr sú uväznení v prudkom boji o sektor Thunderbolt, oblasť vesmíru poznačenú troskami zničených kolónií.

Ako sa boj o sektor Thunderbolt vyostruje, Federácia podniká prekvapivý útok na flotilu Zeonov. Vyčerpanie núti obe strany nasadiť Mobilné obleky, ktoré ešte nie sú celkom pripravené na boj – Federačný Gundam v plnom brnení a Zeonov Reuse P. Device – „Psycho Zaku“. Nasadenie týchto strojov do boja znamená ťažké obete pre obe strany, a najmä pre ostreľovača Zeonov Daryla Lorenza. Medzitým musí Federácia vyslať do boja sotva vycvičených nováčikov. Bitka sa rozprúdi a Lorenz a jeho federálny nepriateľ Io Fleming opäť skrížia meče v trpkom boji o pomstu a prežitie.

In the Universal Century year 0079, the space colony known as Side 3 proclaims independence as the Principality of Zeon and declares war on the Earth Federation. One year later, they are locked in a fierce battle for the Thunderbolt Sector, an area of space scarred by the wreckage of destroyed colonies.

As the struggle for the Thunderbolt Sector heats up, the Federation mounts a surprise attack on the Zeon fleet. Attrition forces both sides to deploy Mobile Suits that are not quite battle ready-the Federation's Full Armor Gundam and Zeon's Reuse P. Device-the "Psycho Zaku." Getting these machines into the fight means tough sacrifices for both sides, and for the ace Zeon sniper Daryl Lorenz in particular. Meanwhile, the Federation must send barely trained recruits into combat. Battle is joined and Lorenz and his Federation nemesis Io Fleming cross swords once again in a bitter struggle for vengeance and survival.
